Nikhil Joseph Dharan is a historian of the chemical sciences, focusing on colonialism, industrialization, environmental history, and chemical education. He came to the Science History Institute as a doctoral candidate in history of science at the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation, entitled “Colonial Alchemies,” places the growth of both laboratory and vocational chemical knowledge at the center of industrial change and politics in late colonial South India (1909–1937).
