Nadia Berenstein
Haas Presidential Research Fellow
Nadia Berenstein holds a PhD in history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied the history of flavor science and the flavor industry. A former Beckman Center Fellow, she has published her work in academic journals (History of Science, The Senses & Society) as well as non-academic magazines and websites, including Food & Wine, Serious Eats, and Epicurious. Her reporting on the “clean label” trend in processed food won a James Beard award in 2019. She has been a featured guest on NPR’s Science Friday, Gastropod, and other podcasts, and was an advisor for the Museum of Food and Drink’s inaugural exhibition, Flavor: Making It and Faking It, in New York. She is part-time faculty in food studies at the New School.
