Eleanor Webb came to the Institute as a sixth-year PhD Candidate in history at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focused on educational institutions in early modern Italy. Her dissertation project, tentatively titled “Between Studium and Accademia: Teachers and Students in Early Modern Italy,” investigates how university professors and students used learned academies to broaden the scope of official higher education through engagement in scientific and anatomical experiments, and discussion of the results of new scientific research.
